&lt;P&gt;하지만 피아노 제작법이 갈수록 발전하고 악기가 점점 육중하게 변함에 따라서 보통 가정에 두기는 힘들어졌죠.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;물론 피아노는 처음 탄생부터 아주 사치품이었기 때문에 &#039;보통&#039; 서민 가정에는 없었으리라고 추측합니다만..&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;어쨌거나 베토벤과 쇼팽, 리스트의 피아노 음악들은 피아노 제작자들을 흥분시키기 시작했고, 제작자들은 그들의 작품에 걸맞는, 음역이 넓고 튼튼하며 음향이 아주 큰 피아노를 만들게 됩니다.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;문제는 이런 큰 피아노들을 일반 가정에 두는 것은 소음면이나 경제사정면에서 아주 부담되는 일이지요.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;P&gt;2)그래서 발명한 것이 업라이트 피아노입니다.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;&lt;FONT color=#3a32c3&gt;&lt;STRONG&gt;현을 수평으로 눕힌 것이 아니라 수직으로 세웠고 향판과 공명통이 가정용에 걸맞게 대폭 줄어들었습니다&lt;/STRONG&gt;&lt;/FONT&gt;.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;현을 세우게 되니 자연스레 건반과 해머의 매커니즘도 바뀌게 되었죠.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;&lt;FONT color=#7820b9&gt;&lt;STRONG&gt;그랜드 피아노는 해머가 아래에서 위로 때리는 방식인데 비해, 업라이트 피아노는 앞에서 뒤로 때리는 방식&lt;/STRONG&gt;&lt;/FONT&gt;입니다.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;그리고 &lt;FONT color=#009e25&gt;&lt;STRONG&gt;그랜드 피아노는 윗부분을 열어두어 소리가 위로 퍼지게 되어있는데 업라이트 피아노는 상자 형태로 소리를 가둬두어 울림이 적습니다&lt;/STRONG&gt;&lt;/FONT&gt;.(물론 윗부분을 열수는 있으나 현과 수직으로 열리기 때문에 효과는 적습니다.)&lt;/P&gt;

&lt;P&gt;첫째로 그랜드 피아노가 소리가 더 크고 울림이 좋습니다. 현이 길고(최대 3m), 향판과 공명통이 큰데다 개방구조이기 때문이지요.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;둘째로 그랜드 피아노와 업라이트 피아노는 &lt;FONT color=#ff0000&gt;&lt;STRONG&gt;페달이 다릅니다&lt;/STRONG&gt;&lt;/FONT&gt;. 음향이 다르기 때문에 음향을 조절하는 장치인 페달의 기능 역시 다를 수 밖에 없지요. 물론 가장 오른쪽에 있는 댐퍼 페달은 똑같습니다만...&lt;/P&gt;
